Four friends are jumping in the saddle to cycle 1,000 miles in 16 days in aid of three charities.

Karen Bye, Clive Patch, Steve Sage and Emma Harvey will set off on September 14 to cycle from Bristol to Barcelona to raise money for Mind UK, Brain Tumour Research and Breast Cancer Now.

Karen, who works in Nailsea, said: "We have never done anything like this before and have chosen these charities as they have all been relevant to us personally with friends and family."

The team has planned the whole route, which will follow cycle trails, canals, rivers, and minor roads via Poole, Cherbourg, Brittany, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Carcassonne and an uphill section through the Southern Pyrenees into Spain and the final destination of Barcelona.

The foursome is hoping to raise £40,000.
