Businesses and organisations are being encouraged to provide more cycle parking facilities, and could receive free bike stands.

North Somerset Council is promoting sustainable travel in the district, and is offering firms, schools, churches and other organisations the chance to claim up to five free cycle stands for people to park their bikes.

The initiative is backed by the Department for Transport’s Fund for Sustainable Travel.

A council spokesman said: “The offer is open to businesses, schools, leisure facilities, churches and other places of worship, and other amenities used by members of the public.

“Each stand is suitable for two bikes. Applicants are responsible for collection, installation and associated costs.

“The deadline for applications is February 21.”
