A FOODBANK collection point has been set up in Portishead.

Wicketty Woo, the hobby and knitting shop in Phoenix Way, which is also home to the Post Office Local, is now taking in donations of food for people in crisis.

The UK has more than 200 foodbanks set up to support the rising number of people experiencing difficulties due to the tough economic climate.

The Portishead collections are managed by the North West Bristol Foodbank, which already distributes to the Pill area of North Somerset.

Yvonne Dutton, owner of Wicketty Woo, said: “Our customers have been very generous and say they are happy to support those who are currently experiencing difficulty.

“I believe the foodbank is already delivering to families in Pill but anyone in Portishead who needs help can contact it on 07582 749256 or email office@bristol nwfoodbank.org.uk.”
