Flood light plans to be considered

RESIDENTS living near to a Clevedon sports centre have raised concerns following an application to extend its operating hours and the amount of time outdoor floodlights are turned on for.

Proposals to allow Swiss Valley Sports Centre to use its floodlights for an extra hour during weekday evenings, extending from 9pm to 10pm, will be considered by North Somerset Council’s north area committee tomorrow (Thurs).

While three letters of objection were received concerning the plans for the Clevedon School site in Valley Road, council planning officers have recommended they be approved.

They believe the additional hour will not have an significant impact on neighbouring properties in terms of noise or light disturbance.

However, it has been recommended that the approval be given for a temporary six-month period at first to allow the council to monitor any nuisance complaints.
