Firefighters were called out to a blaze in a derelict building on an old hospital site in Pill last night (Saturday).

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the old Ham Green Hospital site just after 8pm after reports of smoke coming from an empty building.

Two fire crews from Avommouth and one from Pill found a fire in the centre of the building.

Four firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, went into the property to tackle the blaze which had been started in a pile of rubbish.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate.

Nobody was injured in the fire, but the police are now investigating.
