FIREFIGHTERS have been kept busy this morning (Wed) with a huge number of calls from people affected by flood water.
From 7am, the Avon Fire and Rescue Service control room was inundated by requests for help from people affected by rising water levels.
In some cases, crews were deployed and pumps used to either remove water from a property or garden, or to try to divert the path of water to reduce the risk of flooding.
The North Somerset area has been the most affected, with multiple calls for help in Backwell, Claverham, Congresbury and the Chew Magna area.
A 45-year-old woman was rescued from a Skoda car in floodwater at Backwell Common just after 10am and crews from Bedminster used a raft to search a vehicle at Chapel Hill in Backwell after it had become submerged in water. Swift water rescue team members searched the vehicle but no people were found.
Anyone planning to travel is being advised to listen to local radio broadcasts for latest travel information.
Drivers are being advised to consider whether their journey is necessary, allow plenty of time for the journey, think about alternative routes, take great care when driving, and if they do drive through water, test the vehicle brakes afterwards.
