A FIRE to the rear of The Plough in Portishead is thought to have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Crews were called to the High Street pub in the early hours of Saturday morning to find flames leaping 20 to 30 feet in the air.
Firefighter, watch manager Neil Fletcher, said: “When we arrived we found a severe fire to the rear of the smoking area of the pub. It was obvious to us that cylinders were involved as one of the cylinders was venting off flames into the air.”
The fire destroyed a wooden garage containing a vintage car and caused minor damage to some windows to the kitchen of The Plough. The fascias and guttering of the Phoenix Bar to the rear of the Plough were also affected.
Three pumps attended the scene, two from Portishead and one from Avonmouth. No one was hurt.
