Fourteen firefighters tackled a fire across three homes in Nailsea yesterday (Wednesday).

Six crews attended the blaze which started in the roof or a property in Shaftesbury Close just after midnight.

The fire had spread to two adjoining properties and three residents had evacuated their homes before the emergency services arrived.

A 36-year-old man, a 12-year-old girl and a 63-year-old man were checked by ambulance crews on scene.

The British Red Cross emergency response service also attended to provide assistance.

Fire crews monitored the scene throughout the night and an exclusion zone was put in place until a structural engineer arrived.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
