A woman has died after a crash on a busy road near the M5 this morning (Wednesday).

The driver, in her 50s, collided with a lamppost on the A369 in Easton-in-Gordano’s Martcombe Road at around 6.45am.

She was freed from the car and received treatment from emergency services but died shortly afterwards.

Specialist collision investigators examined the scene where the car, a Toyota RAV4, fell down a grass embankment.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has launched an appeal for witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident.

A spokesman said: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information which could help our inquiry.

“Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit via 101, providing the call handler with the reference CI-29/19/1822.”
