THE Christian names of fallen soldiers will be read out for the first time during Remembrance services in two villages this year.
Members of Crockerne Pill and District History Society are currently researching the 60-plus names which feature on war memorials at Christ Church in Pill and St George’s Church in Easton-in-Gordano.
All those named on the monuments had a previous connection to the area and fought in either World War One or Two.
Their initials and surnames are read out during the Armistice services held in the villages each year. However, thanks to the research by the society, many of their Christian names are now known.
At a meeting of Pill and Easton-in-Gordano Parish Council on February 25, members agreed to allow these to be read out during this year’s services.
