A MUSICIAN, producer and composer from Portishead has been nominated to receive a prestigious American Emmy award for one of his musical creations.

James Childs, who grew up in Portishead and now lives in Los Angeles, has been nominated for the Outstanding Original Song award along with co-composer, Andy Sturmer, for the theme music they created for the Disney cartoon, Kick Buttowski.

A glamorous ceremony will be held on Friday, when the winners of the many categories in the Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards will be announced.

James, aged 38, moved to Los Angeles, California, nine years ago and is well-known on the music scene for his work with the bands Airbus, Black On Sunshine, Jinxremover and his current band, Vic Du Monte’s Persona Non Grata.

The former Gordano School pupil is married to Dana and they have two children, seven-year-old Logan and four-year-old Ryder. He composed the music for Kick Buttowski in the summer of 2009 before the cartoon was first aired in February 2010 and has now been asked to compose a theme for another new Disney cartoon. This has been fitted in around his busy schedule of recording albums and embarking on annual tours around Europe with his latest band.
