Called M’Changa, the six-year-old African elephant arrived at the attraction on Friday night after travelling from Sweden and encountering traffic problems and a delayed ferry crossing along the way.

Weighing one-and-a-half tons, he has joined 30-year-old female Buta and nine-year-old male Janu at Noah’s Ark’s Elephant Eden facility.

A fourth elephant, a big, mature bull called Kruger, is also set to join the growing herd before the end of the year from Port Lynne Reserve in Kent.

The transfer of M’Changa resulted from a long consultation period with advice from elephant experts and the European Endangered Species Program.
