Elderly pedestrian killed in accident in Portishead

A man in his 70s has died after a crash late last night (Thursday) in Portishead.

Police were called to Wyndham Way at about 7.50pm after a collision involving a red van.

The pedestrian died at the scene, police confirmed this morning (Friday).

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now launched an investigation into what happened.

One of its spokesman urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision, the red van or pedestrian prior to the incident.

“Any information should be directed to the collision investigation unit on 101 and quoting reference number 5217035754.”

The man’s identity has not been revealed publicly at this stage by the police.
