MORE than 55 children turned out in the rain with their parents as part of efforts to get more people to walk to school.
Trinity Primary School in Portishead took part in National Walk to School week between May 16-20, with children encouraged to walk from Waitrose in Harbour Road to school on May 11 and, despite the wet weather, children from the school’s nursery all the way up to year six took part, along with parents and siblings.
The week was launched with a walk to school song and the introduction of the school’s Golden Boot competition, which involves each class filling out a survey of how they get to school. The class with the most walkers, cyclists or scooter riders wins and this will be carried out each term.
The theme for this year’s Walk to School Week was ‘walk smart’ and was aimed at teaching children how to be safe pedestrians.
