A RUGBY team from Backwell School has triumphed for the third time in the final of the Bristol States School Cup.
The 1st XVs clinched the title after beating Bristol team Castle School, from Thornbury, in its fifth consecutive final held at Aretians Rugby Club, in Bristol.
The team were favourites to win after clinching a battle with last year’s winners, Filton College Development Squad, in the semi-final.
Contributing to the 19-12 result were Chris Hobbs, aged 18, making two tries and Chris Waldron, aged 17, who scored one try, with man of the match declared as Brennon Bratchie, aged 16.
The school’s head of PE, Paul Stephens, said: “It was a fitting end to a very successful season, which has seen the team lose only one game, to Kings College, Taunton in the 5th Round of the Daily Mail Cup.”
