Teaching tots to read books

The importance of getting children to start reading when they are young has been at the forefront of one Portishead group.
Talking Tots has marked Back To Books Week by holding literacy sessions with the children.
The group, which is based at The Play Port in Old Mill Road, encouraged the youngsters to dress up as their favourite fictional characters, and bring in unwanted books to swap with other children.
Talking Tots also wanted to encourage the preschool pupils to continue reading at home.
So, it arranged for a photo competition to take place too, where parents could send in pictures of their children reading in an unusual place around the house.
