Primary school pupils are celebrating after their school in Portishead received an award.
St Peter’s Primary School has been given Teaching School status, which is a reflection of the quality of education provided to its students.
To receive such accreditation, a school must meet several criteria.
These include demonstrating the school is a centre of educational excellence both for teachers and children and the commitment and work of staff is also monitored.
Headteacher Sharon Roberts said she was absolutely delighted by the news and believes the school can share its best work with others in the area.
She said: “Our new Teaching School status is a celebration and recognition of everything that we do as a school community.
“St Peter’s has demonstrated high quality standards of practice against every area within the school, and we are excited to start sharing this best practice within the wider teaching community.”

The primary school, in Halletts Way, was last inspected by Ofsted back in 2014 and inspectors rated it as ‘good’.
However, the Teaching School status shines a light at other strengths the school has and the Government believes it gives parents and staff a more regular update of how the centre is performing.
A school spokesman said: “St Peter’s School, as a member of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP), is committed to sharing best practice within a broader sphere and is looking forward to opening its doors to other schools, training new teachers and providing support for other schools over the coming years.”
The LSP, which includes Gordano School, is considering expanding.
It involves five schools at the moment, but eight other schools are considering joining the LSP and they are consulting with parents over the proposal.
Those schools are: Backwell School, Backwell Junior School, West Leigh Infant School, Flax Bourton Primary School, Yatton infant and junior schools, Northleaze Primary School and the Federation of Hannah More Infant and Grove Junior Schools.
The consultation ended earlier this month and the responses are being reviewed ahead of a final decision being announced.
