St Andrew's Primary School, in Station Road, converted an empty classroom.

The parent-teacher assosiation (PTA) donated more than £10,000 in support of the project, which was further supported by donations from Holders Garage and families to purchase new books.

Katie Foreman, the school's English leader, said it was a lovely seeing the children's reaction to the opening.

She said: "While the work was taking place, the room was kept under wrap so no one could see inside and the room has been completely transformed."

Headteacher, Fran Martin, said: "As a school we wanted to raise the profile of reading and a new library was an obvious vehicle to do this."

"The feedback we have received from everyone has been overwhelmingly positive.

"We are very lucky to have such an amazing new space to promote our children's love of reading."
