SPORTING schoolchildren from across North Somerset competed against each other in a sports hall athletics tournament.

Among the teams competing were youngsters in years five and six at High Down Junior School in Portishead (pictured).

The girls from the Down Road school achieved five first places and one second-place finish.

When the results from the day’s contest were eventually read out, High Down was also named the overall winning school.

Teacher Del Shayler was left feeling ‘elated’ at the team effort that resulted in the win.
