CLEVEDON schools are urging families on lower incomes to register their children for free school meals.

This year the Government has already given funding to schools to help families eligible for free school meals to pay for after school and holiday activities through the Join Up Join In scheme.

From next September, schools believe funding could also be available to support children with their learning in the classroom.

Pippa Gribben, who works on behalf of the Clevedon cluster, said “This money should enable us to help all pupils reach their full potential.

“We know that there are families in Clevedon that could have free school meals but don’t apply.

“It would be really good if these families came forward so children get the support they deserve.”

Schools are committed to ensuring that families do not feel embarrassed to apply for free school meals and all enquiries to school offices are handled with sensitivity.

Anyone who thinks their child may be eligible for the scheme should talk to their school office or call the Clevedon Extended Services office on 01275 879727.
