Schools, preschools and nurseries asked children and staff to dress as their favourite characters to mark the occasion.
Impressive costumes from Nailsea School included characters from Moomins, Alice in Wonderland and Shakespeare’s plays.
Lakehouse Nursery in Portishead invited parents in to read stories with their children.
Pupils from the Federation of Hannah More Infant and Grove Junior Schools in Nailsea dressed in their pyjamas and enjoyed stories and hot chocolate in tents on the field.
