ST KATHERINE’S School has been given the Gold School Travel Plan award in recognition of its efforts to encourage students to travel to school in a sustainable and safe way.

The secondary school in Ham Green, Pill, sees 70 per cent of its pupils travelling from Bristol to get to lessons.

As a result, there are seven public buses that serve the school. Families are also asked to share car journeys.

Students living nearby are encouraged to walk and improvements have also been made to local cycle paths.

The travel plan is a national initiative set up by the Department for Transport.
