PUPILS at St Mary’s Primary School in Portbury have received a wall hanging from their link school in South Africa.

The work of art was created by youngsters from Zithulele School where the majority of pupils are orphans and there are up to 80 students in each class. It depicts life in their home village.

The link with St Mary’s was forged as a result of a Youth in Action project in 2009, organised by the Portishead-based charity, Za Foundation.

The Portbury primary school is one of 16 schools in and around North Somerset which, through the Za Foundation, now have links with schools in some of the poorest, rural areas of South Africa.
