A BACKWELL School is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special service and ball.
Fairfield School, in Fairfield Way, was founded in 1935 with just eight pupils on the register. Today the popular school boasts 135 pupils and a high achievement record with a record 13 children gaining scholarships to senior schools last year.
Headteacher Lesley Barton said: “This is a fantastic milestone for us and the whole school is looking forward to celebrating our 75th birthday. While Fairfield has moved smoothly into the 21st century and embraced modern technology, we have still retained our traditional values and aims.
“We are a family school and aim to give children confidence, help them to achieve their potential and, being a small school, develop and treat each child individually.”
