YOUNG engineers triumphed during a robotics contest held at The University of South Wales.

Three year 10 pupils from St Katherine’s School in Pill entered the Robo Rally competition, which is put on each year to give students an insight into engineering at the university.

Jack Lowe, Alistair Mitchell and Arlen Mott had the chance to view students’ work, hear from graduates and find out about the growing global demand for engineers.

Before the day they were also given a robot kit and were tasked with assembling and programming a two-wheeled robot to navigate an obstacle course.

Their creation ended up completing the course in the fastest time and resulted in the students being presented with certificates, a plaque and a £100-cheque for their school.
