Pupils enjoyed an exciting visit to the Houses of Parliament as part of their politics studies.

Children from year five and six at St Francis Primary School saw British politics in action during a trip to London.

The youngsters saw Brexit protesters lining the streets and a tented village which had been set up for the press.

Pupils met a number of well-known figures on their tour around Westminster before watching the opening ceremony of the House of Commons.

A school spokesman said: “The children enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be at the centre of British politics as they visited the Houses of Parliament during a very historic week.

“They were fascinated by the protesters lining the streets in front of the parliament building.

“The children then enjoyed an education session where they held their own mock elections and chose a new Prime Minister.”
