Horses, dogs, rabbits, cats, mice and tortoises joined children at a Nailsea school as they celebrated the patron saint of animals.

Staff and pupils from St Francis Primary School, in Station Road, took their pets into lessons to celebrate the feast day of their patron saint.

A year six pupil took her horse into school and the children were able to watch her ride around the field and perform several jumps.

Another horse was also driven from Chepstow to meet the staff and pupils.

A contant stream of four-legged pets accompanied their young owners to lessons during the day including rabbits, dogs and cats.

One teacher took in a pair of mice who took up residence in the staff room and two tortoises also made an appearance with their owner.

Children were able to get up close to some owls at the end of the day when staff from Avon Owls took the birds in to meet the pupils.
