Pupils form coalition government

YOUNGSTERS saw the Government in action this week when they visited the Houses of Parliament in London.

Pupils enjoyed a trip to the capital as part of their citizenship work and were able to observe an afternoon sitting in the House of Commons.

The visit included a workshop where the children formed political parties and made speeches to each other before voting. After the votes were revealed the children had to work together to form a coalition government and select a prime minister.

Headteacher Lesley Barton said: “It was a very exciting day for the children and gave them a real opportunity to see how our Government and parliament works.

“We were particularly pleased that many people commented on their excellent behaviour and manners during the visit.”
