A MINI-Olympics at Portishead Open Air Pool in 2012 was so successful that organisers decided to make it an annual event, in the form of an annual inter-schools gala.
Pupils from Portishead schools High Down Juniors, St Joseph’s, St Peter’s, Trinity and Portishead Primary along with swimmers from Torwood School in Bristol, battled it out for coveted medals, while pool staff and volunteers, assisted by Portishead Rotary, parents and teachers, cheered them on .
The champions of the day were High Down with 21 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals. St Peter’s was second with St Joseph’s and Portishead Primary joint third.
A spokesman for the event said: “This event couldn’t happen without the community spirit that exists in Portishead and we would like to thank everyone who helped make it a success.”
