An after-school club in Clevedon has been given an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following its first inspection.

The Den opened at All Saints Church, in All Saints Lane, in June 2015 and provides resources including books, games and a computer for children to use both before and after school.

It was inspected by the education watchdog for the first time on June 27 and awarded an outstanding rating in its effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching, and children’s development and behaviour.

The published report says: “The highly qualified manager has developed an uncompromising and highly successful drive for excellence.

“Children are provided with a superb range of meaningful, challenging and stimulating activities.

“Self-evaluation is highly accurate and sharply focused on continuous improvement.

“Areas for development are regularly reviewed and prioritised to continually improve children’s care, learning and play.

Anna Griffin, founder and manager, credited the ‘tireless’ work of staff, parents and children for the club’s success.

She added: “We are overwhelmingly delighted with the result of our recent Ofsted.

“Staff have worked tirelessly over the past two years setting up and developing the essentials for a safe and stimulating environment.

“The children have been on a real journey with us too – they are the most important part of what we do, they inspire us to come up with engaging activities and keep us young at heart.

“We’d like to thank our parents too – they trust us with their kids and provide us with the support and guidance we need to make the time away from home as lovely as it can be.”
