A village may lose its toddler group if new people cannot be found to take it over at the start of the next school year.

Families who rely on a well-used service may see it disbanded if no-one can be found to run the service in Long Ashton.

Husband and wife team Kate and Dave Bolton took on Westleaze Toddler Group in April last year, but due to personal and charity project commitments they cannot continue to run it after the school holidays in July.

The sessions for under fives offer arts and crafts activities, puzzles and children can play with a range of toys at Westleaze.

The group said: "We have made the sad decision to hand over the reins to someone who would be willing to run the toddler group after this summer's term.

"We have very much enjoyed our time here but feel it's time to move on, due to Dave's handyman workload and my commitments with Help Bristol's Homeless Charity - as well as various other projects we have in the pipeline."

Westleaze has held pottery painting and hula hooping sessions, as well as children's entertainment acts such as Action Pussycat in the past year.

Kate said: "The trouble is, the group has been in Long Ashton for such a long time, so it would be a shame if it just stopped.

"If no-one steps forward, our lovely group will unfortunately have to close."

Westleaze runs on Wednesdays from 10-11.30am during term-time at Church House in Long Ashton Road.

Kate continued: "It has been hard work for us, but I will still be running the village Giggle Totz playgroup on Fridays.

"We finish up at church house on July 10 and would like people to come forward who are interested in taking over the group in September."

In April, Kate helped raise £1,500 for Help Bristol's Homeless at its Easter Fair held at the Long Ashton Community Centre and she regularly hosts events for the charity.

She will hold the weekly group at the centre, and the venue celebrates its 60th anniversary in July.

Kate said the prearranged Christmas Party's entertainment has been booked and paid for at church house in December.

The group will hold a summer party on July 10 at the venue in Long Ashton from 10am to noon.
