Children and families across North Somerset have the chance to get more active this autumn.

North Somerset Council has joined forces with Living Streets to deliver the WOW – The Year-Round Walk To School Challenge.

The project – which has been set up with the help of the Department for Transport’s Access Fund – will work with 15 schools to encourage lifelong healthy habits and reduce congestion at school gates.

Schools participating will benefit from staff training, assemblies and lesson plans.

The initiative will encourage children to walk to school at least once a week for the whole school year.

Yeo Moor Primary School’s assistant headteacher, Tor Zakaria, said: “We would definitely recommend this scheme to other schools. The families and children really engaged with this scheme.”
