Hundreds of children and their parents were invited into Nailsea School for a welcome breakfast.

The year six children who will be joining the secondary school in September were given the opportunity to meet their new classmates, explore the school and to chat to staff.

The 94 families who visited tucked into a cooked breakfast or a lighter meal of crossaints and crepes.

This year the school has received a record number of entries and it is looking at ways to ensure its catering facilities continue to run smoothly.

Assistant head and transition manager Craig Mawford believes it helps the youngsters make the step from primary to secondary school.

Mr Mawford added: “The welcome breakfast was really well received.

“It was great to see the kids getting stuck in and exploring their new environment and chatting to staff.

“We run a number of transition events in the lead up to their start in September – we have found it makes for a more confident and progressive start to the academic year.”
