Nailsea School’s headteacher says she is ‘incredibly proud’ of GCSE students and staff for coping with changes and more challenging content.

Of all the entries this year, 26 per cent received 9-7 grades – equivalent to A*-A grades – and 74 per cent of all entries were graded 9-4 – A*-C – with 74 per cent achieving a 4 or more in English and maths.

Headteacher Dee Elliott said: “I’m incredibly proud of our students and staff who have had to cope with the national changes to the assessment system, namely the more challenging content being taught and examined.

“While acknowledging the enormous achievements of the most able is very important, as a truly inclusive school we mentor, nurture, encourage and celebrate every single student.

“We have fantastic dedication from the students and unwavering belief from staff, which has helped with this success.

“I would also like to thank the fabulous support of parents over the past five years and especially the support they gave their children over the past few months.

“The excellent relationships fostered between school and home has enabled our students to flourish and subsequently celebrate these wonderful results.

“Behind every set of examination results there is a personal story of commitment and perseverance.

“I am absolutely delighted that the hard work of the students has been rewarded with these marvellous results.

“I wish our students well as they follow the path of their choice, whether that be to further education, apprenticeships or further training.”
