Year three pupils from The Whiteoak Academies of Hannah More Infants and Grove Juniors took part in a treasure hunt, which involved cracking a code to find the gold.

The youngsters sang songs, danced like pirates and took part in a quiz to learn facts about the sea-faring robbers.

A school spokesman said: "Children sorted myths from truths about pirates and also began their day by showing their families their wonderful learning so far this year.

"The pirate topic has been enjoyed through a wonderful story called Pirate House Swap where a family go on holiday to a mystery destination by the sea which turns out to be a pirate ship.

"The children are looking forward to writing their own pirate adventure stories when they return after half term."
