A NEW sixth form facility has been officially opened at Gordano School.

North Somerset MP Dr Liam Fox declared the facility at the Portishead school, named The Learning Curve, officially open during a ceremony on September 26. Director of children and young people’s services at North Somerset Council, Sheila Smith, and previous headteacher Bob Sommers also attended.

Head boy Adam Grey and head girl Ellie Thornhill took the guests on a tour of the new facilities, which include a performing arts and lecture hall, complete with tiered seating, specialist lighting and sprung floor; four spacious classrooms and a large open-plan study area, which is equipped with computers for students to use in their free study time.

The guests, who said they were impressed with the new facilities, were also shown a wide range of elective opportunities the sixth form students take part in, including deaf awareness, meditation, digital photography and Italian.

Headteacher Gary Lewis said: “I am proud we have at last got the high-quality environment for study that our sixth formers deserve.”
