Two students have received awards after their designs were selected for Portishead Town Council’s and Gordano School’s Christmas cards this year.

Acting headteacher Tom Inman and council chairman Lesley Cottrell were impressed with the entries and whittled them down to create a shortlist of seven.

The designs created by Yestin Penalosa and Izumi Pride however were the two which were selected to be used by the council and school.

The winning pair were congratulated at the council meeting on December 13.

Izumi’s design was a festive take on artist Rick Kirby’s Arc Of Angels statues in Jubilee Park.

And Yestin’s card featured the installation created by Archer Michael Dan, entitled Full Fathom Five, and a night-time view of Portishead, looking towards the marina.

Both Izumi and Yestin have received £25 for winning the competition.
