Dozens of Portishead students have taken part in a NASA-based project.

Year eight pupils at Gordano School completed the Faraday Challenge – an activity testing science and technology knowledge.

The event is organised by the Institute of Engineering and Technology and is based on the new James Webb Space Telescope.

Teams had to work together to solve problems and build components to be used by the group.

A school spokesman said: “The challenge of the project was pitched really high, with our students responding really well.

“They had to budget their spending, learn new techniques and work with the technology they had to hand.

“Each group finished the day by presenting their prototypes and their ideas for development.
