Teenagers in Portishead found out their GCSE results this morning (Thursday) and the vast majority achieved excellent grades.
Gordano School’s hall was packed with students opening the envelopes containing their results.
For a second successive year, 73 per cent of pupils achieved five A* to C grades, including the core subjects of English and maths.
Gordano’s headteacher Gary Lewis said: “I’m incredibly proud of our pupils for delivering outstanding results once again.
“I am also delighted that they have achieved well across the board and not just at the top.

“GCSE is getting harder every year so it is very pleasing to see that our results and progress have continued to climb when pass rates nationally are in decline.
“Congratulations to our marvellous young people and a huge thank you to our staff and parents who have done so much to spur them on to these achievements.”
