BLEARY-EYED but enthusiastic early-risers will be greeting the Olympic torch as it makes its journey through Backwell.

More than 100 children, parents and staff from Fairfield School will be waving flags as they line the route next Wednesday at 6.30am, as it passes along the A370 a few metres from the school.

The school will then provide the hungry hoards with a typically-British breakfast delicacy - a hot bacon butty.

Headteacher Lesley Barton said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone at the school to join in with the Olympic spirit.

“The children have been studying the Olympic games this term and we are delighted that so many of our parents are willing to bring the children in to see the torch go past, despite the early start.”
