COLOURFUL pupils in fancy dress were joined by teachers, staff and a special guest for the official opening of a newly-revamped school in Long Ashton.
As part of a 4.5million project, Birdwell Primary School in Hollis Close has been completely refurbished and now has six brand new classrooms as well as a new playground and football pitches.
On Thursday, Bristol City goalkeeper David James went along to the school to cut the ribbon and cut a celebratory cake to mark its official opening.
Former staff and representatives from North Somerset Council were also there for the event before the half term break.
The project, which was funded from North Somerset Council capital money, means the school can now cater for 315 pupils compared to the previous 210.
