A Clevedon School production has won a host of prestigious awards, beating established amateur drama groups in the process.

It was the only school in the South West to be nominated in the Somerset Fellowship of Drama’s David Beach Competition, thanks to its 2015 Little Shop Of Horrors Show.

The production’s four-night run, performed to more than 1,000 people, picked up awards for best technical achievement, special recognition and best stage management at a ceremony in Taunton.

Debbie Morgan, head of dance and the show’s director, said: “We are so thrilled once again at these awards. ‘School show’, as a term, is banned as we really want to compete with non-school entrants and put on the very best show that we can.

“It is great we are being recognised for our West End-style shows where stars in musical theatre are born.

“All our productions are a real team effort with parents and local businesses helping out with many aspects of the production.”

The school has also been nominated for a National Operatic and Drama Association award for December’s Guys And Dolls show.
