Clevedon School students ‘excel’ in A-levels despite ‘tougher exams’

Almost all Clevedon School students who applied to university learned they had got straight in on A-level results day today (Thursday).

Head of school Jim Smith said students had ‘excelled themselves’ against the background of ‘tougher exams’ which have moved away from coursework.

In total, 95 per cent of Clevedon School sixth form students who applied to university have got in and 11 students achieved straight As in their three subjects. The school has a 99 per cent pass rate.

Three students will go on to study medicine, and another will learn veterinary science.

Mr Smith said: “Our students have excelled themselves and achieved some outstanding results.

“I am delighted the hard work and commitment of students, their families and the staff of Clevedon School has delivered so many happy stories.

“There are some very special stories to be told which is testament to the work around aspiration and inclusion.

“These results show another year on year improvement by our students, achieved against a backdrop of greater content and tougher exams. I am delighted for everyone.”

John Wells, executive headteacher of the Clevedon Learning Trust which runs the school said: “My congratulations go to everyone involved.
