Mary Elton Primary School started its STEM week by staging a mock rocket crash.
Pupils arrived at school in the morning to find debris covering the field and the area being guarded by police and the fire service.
Children were also shown footage of the shuttle landing in the field and have also been set the task of creating their own rockets.
