CHEAPER school meals are on the menu after North Somerset Council signed a contract with new caterers starting this term.

Children in 55 of the district’s schools will now receive meals cooked by catering firm Edwards and Ward.

The council’s commissioning and contracts manager, Lynda Mitchell, said the move meant meal prices for nursery and primary schools would be 10p less than the previous 2 figure.

Pupils will be offered a daily selection of freshly cooked main meals, salads and desserts, fresh fruit or yoghurt.

Edwards and Ward held cooking roadshows at Mary Elton Primary School in Clevedon, Golden Valley Primary School in Nailsea and Trinity Anglican Primary School in Portishead to celebrate the change.
