Call for businesses to back Books For Schools campaign

Businesses can support our Books For Schools campaign by making a donation through Usborne's community book pledges.
The children’s publisher has teamed up with the Times to give businesses the chance to increase school reading resources.
Businesses can donate as little or as much as they can to the appeal and Usborne has agreed to donate £600 worth of free books for every £1,000 raised.
Usborne bookseller Sam Goodger has offered to organise the community book pledge for the Times and all the money will go towards our campaign to help cash-strapped primary schools.
Sam, from Clevedon, said: “Over the years I have worked with many schools to fill their libraries and classrooms with our fantastic books.
“Our award-winning books range from birth to young adult and with over 2,500 titles, we really do have something for everyone – from our phonics and reading programme to non-fiction and activity books.
“I particularly love how fun learning is with our books – they capture the interest of all children and really help with reading for pleasure which is so important.”
The Times launched its Books For Schools campaign in October to appeal for donations of books and gift vouchers which we will then give out to a school once a month.
Yeo Moor Primary School, in Clevedon, was the first school to receive 100 books through our campaign.
Evidence shows reading is vital to all subjects in school and it helps children to develop empathy and boosts their social development.
Due to government cuts, schools are struggling to provide new books for their pupils.
We are hoping to give out 100 books to a school each month so we are appealing for donations of new and secondhand children’s books and gift vouchers.
Donations can be taken to our Weston office, to Clevedon Community Bookshop in Copse Road, or to Portishead Town Council office, in Folk Hall, in High Street.
