MORE than 30 children at a Clevedon school have taken up a brass instrument after their teacher spent £2,000 buying secondhand trumpets, horns and trombones.
In January Phil Turner held a brass-themed assembly at Mary Elton Primary School in Holland Road and now has 32 children playing a new instrument.
He used his own money to buy the instruments and parents are paying back the cost each term until they meet the total and then eventually own their child’s piece of equipment.
Phil, who runs three afterschool music clubs, said: “Hopefully Clevedon will have loads more children blowing trumpets and making noise over the next few years or so.”
