Five North Somerset students have proven their maths skills in a national competition.
More than 60,000 pupils from 4,000 schools around the country took part in the UK’s biggest maths competition.
A team of four from Backwell School reached the finals after success in the regional contests.
The team travelled to Westminister for the final.
Olivia Brown and Jack Kearney from year 11, and Euodia Dodd and Luke Barratt from year 13 finished 11th out of 88 schools, including selective private and grammar schools.
Luke also took on additional challenges, and finished in the top five in the country.
Those challenges are only taken by the brightest students in the UK, and Luke has been invited to Trinity College, at Cambridge University, to carry out research.
He already has a place at Trinity to study mathematics next year.
