Pupils from Fairfield School dressed in 1930s costumes, wore evacuee labels, carried their gas masks and learnt new playground games from the era.

The used their ration coupons to buy sweets, ate a wartime packed lunch of spam fritters and corned beef sandwiches and headed to the shelter when they heard the air raid siren.

Children have also learnt how their families were affected in the war and had visits from people who lived through the conflict.
