Award for road safety message

ROAD safety play by Portishead teenagers has been commended by the police.

Members of the Youth Watch group at Gordano School received certificates of commendation in the Avon and Somerset Police Chief Constables Young Persons Awards.

The play, entitled Ghost Street, involved students dressing up as zombies and the ghosts of people killed on the roads over the years. It showed the devastating effects of distraction on the roads and errors of judgement.

The students received their certificates from Inspector Elizabeth Hughes in the final school assembly of the academic year.

PCSO Dawn Tremlett who oversees Youth Watch said: “I am very proud of the students who worked hard and put a great deal of effort into the play. It had exactly the impact intended, making young people think more about road safety.”
